After a very successful trial, we made the decision recently to convert our entire outdoor plant and greenhouse areas to Nostrand ebb & flow plant benches. It really has been a game changer for us. Where we used to spend hours staring down the end of a hose pipe, we can water more effectively and productively in a fraction of the time. The plants show less stress and leaf-scorch and none get missed. Nostrand’s service and support has been first class and I really cannot recommend them or their tables enough.
There are some significant savings to be made when changing to Nostrand ebb & flow plant benches. Plant wastage rates have declined from 1.02% of turnover to 0.68%, with the majority of wastage now resulting from mechanical damage to the plants rather than drying out or the incidence of powdery mildews/other fungal problems. Watering productivity is a little more difficult to assess, however, whereas previously we spent 3000+ man-hours watering in a typical year we are now spending somewhere in the region of 500 hours.
